Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Desire for a Union-Made EV
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, popularly known as AOC, has once again expressed her desire to trade in her Tesla for a union-made electric vehicle (EV). During an appearance on Face the Nation, AOC reiterated her intention to switch to a union-made EV.
The Reason behind AOC's Decision
AOC mentioned that she purchased her Tesla Model 3 during the pandemic, considering EVs to be the safest means of transportation. However, as circumstances have changed and new models from other manufacturers have entered the market, she is now looking to trade in her current car for a union-made EV.
AOC's Ongoing Feud with Elon Musk
It is not surprising to hear about AOC's desire to distance herself from Tesla, as she has repeatedly clashed with Elon Musk, the CEO of the company. Their feud has intensified amid the historic United Auto Workers strike, which has seen the union demanding better working conditions and benefits for employees in the automotive industry.
AOC's Plans for Switching to a Union-Made EV
In her recent appearance on Face the Nation, AOC was specifically asked about the timeline for switching her Tesla for a union-made EV. She mentioned that she had bought her Tesla Model 3 in 2020 as it was the only EV capable of completing the journey between Washington and her district in New York with one or one-and-a-half charges.
However, AOC highlighted that she is now exploring options to trade in her car and replace it with a union-made EV. This is not the first time she has expressed her interest in owning an electric vehicle produced by a company that allows employees to unionize.
AOC's Stand Against Tesla's Union Status
AOC has previously voiced her disapproval of Tesla's union status. Being one of the few major automakers in the United States without a union, the company has faced criticism. AOC's stance aligns with her belief that employees should have the right to unionize, and she doesn't hold back when it comes to criticizing Elon Musk, referring to him as a billionaire and stating that she couldn't care less about his opinions.
Neither Ocasio-Cortez nor Tesla has responded to requests for comments at the time of writing.
