Elon Musk, a Twitter founder, is well-known for his outspokenness on the platform. He has encouraged other leaders to create their own social media accounts and be authentic in their messaging.
The billionaire spoke at the World Government Summit in Dubai Wednesday. He said that he encourages politicians, CEOs, and ministers to speak authentically on social media.
He said, "I believe it's better for people to speak in the voice they have," rather than how they think they should. It can sound stiff and artificial.
Musk noted that corporate press releases can sometimes "sound like propaganda." Musk said he would encourage leaders to create their own tweets and communicate their message "directly" through them.
Musk, who has been in trouble for his tweets, stated that being criticised is "really, not that bad."
He said, "I am constantly attacked on Twitter and it doesn't bother me." "They will try to turn the knife on you, so it is important to have thick skin."
Musk, who is the CEO of five companies, has more than 128 million Twitter followers. Musk is well-known for his unfiltered and unconventional tweeting style. He often mixes company announcements with conspiracy theories and memes and occasionally gets into fights against other high-profile figures.
Musk replied brazenly to Parag Agrawal, the former CEO of Twitter,'s tweet about why his strategy for identifying bots on Twitter was flawed. He did so with a smiley poop emoticon.
Musk was also well-known for using Twitter to share his antilockdown views and mislead information about COVID-19. He called panic over the virus "dumb" on March 2020. Musk then claimed that doctors misattributed deaths to COVID-19, which he later denied.
Musk was recently in a legal battle for his tweet "funding secured" from 2018, where he claimed that he had secured funding to take Tesla private. Investors sued Musk, claiming that he had manipulated Tesla's share prices. The deal was never completed. A federal jury found that Musk's tweet did not harm investors and cleared him.
Musk made light of the situation, temporarily changing his Twitter username from "Mr. Tweet" to "Mr. Tweet" following an accidental call by an attorney during the shareholder trial.
