Unique Design
Tesla's Cybertruck doesn't have traditional door handles; instead, it features a button along its window column. This unconventional design caused some new owners to struggle with opening the doors during Tesla's delivery event, prompting Musk to assist them.
Challenges in Icy Conditions
Marques Brownlee, a Tech YouTuber who had the opportunity to spend time with the truck, reported that the doors could be difficult to operate in icy conditions. Tesla's claim that the button could break through up to an inch of ice and open the door has raised skepticism. Additionally, the stainless steel body of the Cybertruck may be prone to fingerprints when owners grab the door to swing it open.
Musk's Initial Vision
Musk had originally envisioned the Cybertruck without any side-view mirrors or traditional door handles. However, Tesla had to add side-view mirrors due to vehicle regulations. The current design features a small button along the edge of the window, allowing the door to pop open slightly for easy grabbing and pulling.
Previous Door Handle Issues
Tesla owners have previously complained about the company's high-tech door handles. Some owners faced difficulties with the handles in freezing temperatures, while others experienced handle breakages. These past frustrations may have contributed to the confusion and challenges faced by the first buyers of the Cybertruck.
