- An ex-executive at Twitter told i News that Elon was acting "like a local drunk."
- Bruce Daisley stated that this meant employees wouldn't be as proud to work for Twitter.
- Musk fired thousands of people and claimed that one was using his disability to "no actual work"
Elon Musk recently attacked a former worker and is now acting "like the local drunk", an ex-Twitter vice president told i News.
In an interview with the outlet, Bruce Daisley (who was Twitter's vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa from January 2020) criticized Musk's leadership. In an interview with the outlet, he referred to Musk's confrontation with Haraldur Thorleifsson (a former Twitter director) whom he accused of using his disability to "do no actual work".
Daisley said to i News that Musk "will behave like a local drunk – engaging in slanging matches avec disabled ex-employees – the less current employees are proud to claim they work there." Musk later apologized for his remarks towards Thorleifsson who has muscular dystrophy.
Daisley also spoke out about the chaos created by the company’s reduced workforce. Musk fired half of Twitter's workers just one week after he took control. More workers have been fired, laid off or quit since then. Some critics attribute some of the outages to the decreased headcount.
Daisley said to i News that it was a bit like the cartoon character who jumps off a cliff, but doesn't immediately fall. Although many commentators initially believed that Twitter was run by lazy people, Elon had fired 75% of its employees and the business continued to operate. Now Wile E.Coyote is realizing that gravity applies to him too.
Musk claimed that this week's outage which caused images to be unavailable was due to a "small API update" with "massive implications."
Twitter didn't immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment about whether job cuts might have caused the outages.
Musk's leadership style and treatment of his staff have been criticized. Musk has been openly criticized for his treatment of staff. He told them they should work "extremely hardcore" and be laid off. In San Francisco, he also set up beds for employees to sleep in, as they work long hours.
Musk also invited engineers and executives from other companies to join him at Twitter. He set strict deadlines for workers and took drastic measures to reduce costs and increase revenues.
Musk has made Twitter "a pressure cooker", according to an employee of the company who spoke anonymously to i News.
The worker said, "There are not guidelines." There is no respect. There is absolutely no transparency. It's awful."
