Elon Musk said Tuesday that he was working to improve Twitter's customer support now that some customers pay for it. Some clients were upset by his customer service at other companies.
Musk tweeted that "of course you need to have great customer service for your money" and added that he was "working towards it."
This post by the billionaire comes after Twitter announced plans for removing legacy blue checkmarks (which were verified as authentic) from users' accounts starting April 1. Twitter Blue costs $7 to $8 per month and users will be verified. It costs $1,000 per month for companies, government agencies, and organizations.
Musk's Tuesday tweet was replied to by one Twitter user. He said that customer service at SpaceX and Tesla needed to be improved and that it was unacceptable to not receive a response for several weeks.
While Tesla is valued at over $600 billion, and SpaceX at $137 billion as of January 2017, experts told Insider that SpaceX's reputation could be tarnished by customers' complaints.
SpaceX, Musk’s aerospace manufacturer, operates Starlink. This satellite internet constellation offers broadband at a cost of between $90 to $120 per month depending on where users are located. The kit costs $600.
Jackie Fann, a Michigan resident, said to Insider that she was fed up of waiting more than a year for Starlink. She requested a refund on her October $100 deposit. On Tuesday, she said that she hadn't received her money back.
Fann stated, "They have been giving my the runaround."
Starlink customers have also complained to Insider regarding the company's inability to provide customer support. One Starlink user from Northern California claimed that customer service was nonexistent. Another user felt they were being scammed.
SpaceX expressed its regret to customers last year for not responding in their normal response time and stated that this is not the level we strive to provide.
Insider's Tim Levin reported that Tesla customers have complained about the company's customer service, lack of contact and long wait times. One Tesla owner called the company's customer service "ludicrous."
Insider spoke with twelve Tesla owners about their problems with their cars. Some complained about how slow and inept Tesla customer service was. Others said that it was fast and simple.
Tesla owner claims he talked to an "arrogant employee" about a problem with his Model 3. Insider asked him to tell Insider what the company was doing with his vehicle to fix the problem after he dropped it off at the service center.
Insider asked for comment from Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter.
