Tesla did not make the top 10 this year and was ranked 16th out of 16 companies.

This is despite Elon Musk's belief in his self-driving technology.
Tesla did not make the list of top 10 companies for autonomous driving this year.
Tesla was ranked last in a recent ranking by the research and consulting company Guidehouse Insights, which ranks the top names in automated driving technology every year. Tesla was ranked last on similar lists for 2021 and 2020.
Guidehouse ranked companies that are developing technology for light-to-medium-duty vehicles this year rather than automakers who might use it.
The list is released at a time when the industry has been particularly volatile. It has experienced a number headwinds in the last year, such as waning investor interests, less funding available, and technical challenges. Many companies have suffered as a result.

Argo AI, a business in autonomous vehicles backed by Ford, Volkswagen and others, has closed. Cruise, GM’s self-driving division, was under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Meanwhile, Aurora considered potential acquisitions. Nuro, a delivery startup, laid off 20% its staff. Waymo laid off two employees this year.
The momentum is still there and the developments are promising. Guidehouse Insights cited plans by Motional, Zoox and Mobileye, which will launch driverless operations in 2019, and Cruise, Baidu and AutoX, who are operating commercial robotaxis.
Guidehouse considers a number of factors to determine the ranking, including a company’s vision, its go-to market and production strategy, its partners, technology, commercial readiness and others. Guidehouse divides the companies it ranks in four categories: Leaders, Challengers, Challengers and Followers.
Mobileye Waymo Baidu and Cruise are among the "leaders". Tesla was the only "follower", given its low scores in automated-driving strategy and execution. The company's "Full Self Driving" and Autopilot technology has been criticized for years.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, has been promising autonomous vehicles for more than a decade. Tesla increased the price of its Full Self-Driving Package to $15,000 despite requiring driver supervision. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), which established industry-standard levels of autonomous vehicles, classifies it only as a Level 2 – comparable to Ford's BlueCruise or GM's Super Cruise.
This is the complete list in alphabetical order:
