- Elon Musk announced Friday that Linda Yaccarino will be the new CEO of Twitter.
- Conservatives have expressed concern over her involvement with the World Economic Forum where she is a member of a committee.
- Liberal Twitter users pointed out that she likes and follows prominent conservative tweets.
Users from across the political spectrum took to Twitter after Elon Musk announced Linda Yaccarino's appointment as Twitter CEO. They criticized the former exec for her online and offline behavior.
Musk's announcement of the hire was met with skepticism by conservative users who questioned Yaccarino’s participation in the World Economic Forum and her role as the advertising chief at NBCUniversal. She resigned from that position on Friday. Her previous comments praising NBC’s efforts in diversity and social injustice, as well as her stances on masks and vaccinations during the pandemic were criticized by some.

The WEF is held every year in Davos (Switzerland), where the wealthiest, most influential individuals from around the world meet to discuss issues such as climate change and global economics. Yaccarino, according to her LinkedIn profile, has been involved in the WEF since 2019. She is the "Chairman of WEF's Taskforce on Future of Work", as well as on the committee for media, entertainment, and culture.
Musk has criticised the meeting in the past and has claimed to have skipped it multiple times, even though organizers of events say he's not been invited for years.
"How can WEF/Davos be a thing?" Musk tweeted after the opening address for the 2023 event. "Are they attempting to be the boss on Earth!?" He continued.
In recent years, conspiracy theorists have targeted the WEF. They claim that those involved in the WEF want to change the world by implementing a "great restart." CNN has accused conservative commentators such as Tucker Carlson and Glenn Beck of giving these theories more airtime.
On Friday, some high-profile Twitter conservatisms such as "Catturd", took issue with Yaccarino. They claimed that she was "deeply infected by the woke brain virus."
Other users noted that Yaccarino had interviewed Musk last month at an advertising event, and asked Musk about his free speech policies while maintaining content moderation policies in order to appeal to advertisers. Yaccarino focusing on advertising was seen by some users as a sign that she might increase content moderation under her new role.
Conservatives were not the only ones who criticized Yaccarino. Left-leaning users of Twitter pointed out that Yaccarino likes and follows tweets from conservative accounts, including Catturd. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and right-wing commentary Jesse Watters are among the others.
Liberal users were also upset that Dr. Oz and Herschel Walkes, both conservatives, were appointed to the same presidential council for sports, fitness and nutrition during the former administration of Donald Trump.
Musk commented on the criticism and stated that he believed both sides of politics will find Yaccarino a fair and smart CEO.
Other people, like Bloomtech CEO Austen Allred, agreed and said that anger among liberals and conservatives was likely a good sign for Musk's "centrist beliefs".
Insider was told by some in the advertising business that Musk's hiring of Yaccarino could be his best decision since taking over Twitter. This is largely due to her respect in the industry and the potential she has to increase revenue.
Twitter didn't immediately respond to Insiders request for a comment.
