Twitter seems to have banned Mastodon’s links from being posted on its platform. Insider tried to publish tweets with Mastodon links but was met by an error message. The error message stated that the tweet’s content was “potentially dangerous.”
Twitter seems to block tweets linking to Mastodon, another social-media platform.
Insider tried to publish ten tweets on Thursday night from three different Twitter accounts. Each tweet contained links to Mastodon user profiles. Every attempt to publish a tweet was met with an error message saying: “Your tweet couldn’t be sent due to this link being identified by Twitter and our partners as potentially harmful. For more information, visit our Help Center.
Others on Twitter noticed that links to Mastodon were not being posted to their accounts Thursday evening. Mastodon is often referred to as an alternative to Twitter.

Ben Collins, NBC journalist, was one of them. He found a way to post his Mastodon URL by breaking it up with a set brackets.

Twitter also suspended the Mastodon Twitter account on Thursday. This move was part of a series of account suspensions that also included Donie O’Sullivan (CNN journalist), Drew Harwell (Washington Post), Ryan Mac (New York Times), as well as independent journalists Aaron Rupar and Keith Olbermann.
Insider reached Musk and Mastodon representatives but they did not immediately reply to our request for comment.
This is still a developing story. Keep checking back for more updates.
