OpenAI Ranks Fourth Among Top Vendors IT Leaders Are Investing In

November 17, 2024 By Peter Leave a Comment

Flexera, a software asset management company, recently published its 2025 IT Priorities Report after surveying 800 IT leaders from the US, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia. The survey aimed to understand the priorities of IT decision-makers for the upcoming year.

Insights from the Survey

Among the top technology vendors, OpenAI secured the fourth spot, with 37% of surveyed IT leaders indicating that they are currently investing or planning to invest the most with OpenAI next year. This places OpenAI behind industry giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon Web Services, and on par with Oracle.

This marks the first year that OpenAI has appeared on the survey list as an option, allowing participants to select multiple vendors.

OpenAI's Competitive Edge

The report attributes OpenAI's high ranking to its capacity to collaborate with enterprises and empower employees to develop tailored AI solutions. This capability has positioned the organization as a strong player in the AI consulting sector.

Impact of AI Integration

Survey findings revealed that 42% of IT leaders believe that integrating AI will have the most significant impact on their organizations, surpassing priorities like reducing security risks (26%) and cutting IT costs (25%).

Partnerships and Valuation

OpenAI has been licensing its ChatGPT enterprise solutions to entities like Microsoft and government agencies. Microsoft, in turn, has been proactive in infusing AI across its product lineup, leveraging OpenAI's GPT models, including Microsoft Copilot.

With recent funding rounds totaling $6.6 billion, OpenAI has garnered a valuation of $157 billion. Investors such as Thrive Capital, Khosla Ventures, Tiger Global, SoftBank, Nvidia, and Microsoft have contributed to this valuation. Originally established as a nonprofit entity with a focus on safe AI, OpenAI is now strategizing a transition to a for-profit model within the next two years to align with investor expectations.
