Musk has previously mentioned a range of 10% to 20% probability of human annihilation due to AI. He also predicts that AI will surpass human intelligence within the next year or two and reach a level where it is "smarter than all humans combined" by 2029 or 2030. In a live interview last year, Musk suggested that AI could exceed human intelligence by the end of 2025.

Geoffrey Hinton, a deep learning expert, has expressed his concerns, stating that there is a 10% chance of AI leading to human extinction in the next 30 years. On the other hand, Roman Yampolskiy, an AI safety researcher, believes the "probability of doom" is as high as 99.999999%.
Musk's Involvement with AI
Despite his apprehensions about AI's potential impact on humanity, Musk initially got involved with AI to develop a "non-profit open source AI" that stood in contrast to commercial entities like Google. Following his departure from OpenAI, Musk created the Grok, described as a "maximally truth-seeking AI." This AI is designed to address controversial topics and ethical dilemmas, such as misgendering Caitlyn Jenner and racism against white people, to prevent catastrophic outcomes like a nuclear apocalypse.

Despite the risks associated with AI advancement, Musk remains optimistic about its potential outcomes. He believes that AI will either be "super awesome" or "super bad," with no middle ground.
