An ex-senior employee of Silicon Valley Bank is calling for Elon Musk's purchase of the failing financial institution. This even though he has been given a federal bailout, and as the billionaire faces backlash over the purchase Twitter.
Mona Maitra, a 11-year SVB employee, posted a LinkedIn post asking Musk to purchase the bank. She used a parody music video by Alanis Morissette of "Ironic" that was filmed in a Tesla.
It quickly gained attention on LinkedIn and attracted thousands of views, hundreds of comments, and shares.
"Mona, oh my gods you did it !!!" Another person commented that they were also employees of Silicon Valley Bank.
Musk last week tweeted that he was open for buying the bank failing, but later warned that it would be like the 1929 Wall Street crash.
This lighthearted post is in response to Friday's highly publicized collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, which prompted extensive and broad-ranging debate about how to deal with the bank's loss.
The Federal Reserve, FDIC and US Treasury announced over the weekend a bailout plan for bank customers, mainly venture capitalists and startups. The statement stated that depositors will be able to access all their money from Monday, March 13, 2013. The taxpayer will not be responsible for any losses resulting from the resolution of Silicon Valley Bank. The move was criticised and compared to the Great Recession's bank bailouts.
Many people cheered Musk's "Ironic" parody. However, some employees of SVB have expressed concern that Musk may not buy them out.
"Guys, pay attention. Kelley Dean-Crowley, SVB project manager, stated that Elon isn't a savior.
Despite the chaos, some parodies were used to celebrate the company's employees.
"I laughed, and I cried. I sent it all to my closest SVBers. Mona, you're incredible," Jenni Halleran, SVB Deputy Chief BSA Officer wrote. People like you are what make this so difficult.
