Chaos Ensues at Spicy Fried Chicken Giveaway in Chinese Subway Station

Chaos Ensues at Spicy Fried Chicken Giveaway in Chinese Subway Station

March 20, 2024 By Peter Leave a Comment

During rush hour, a snack company in China, Qianwufu, decided to distribute free spicy fried chicken at the Huaguoyuan station. However, what was intended as a promotional event turned into a disaster as people flocked to the special subway train, leading to chaos and criticism on social media.

Event Description

The local snack company, Qianwufu, organized the promotion as a way to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day. They decorated a subway train on Guiyang city's third metro line with their branding and named it the "Qianwufu Fresh Fried Guizhou Spicy Chicken Special Train." The company offered gift bags containing nine-ounce packs of firecracker chicken, a popular dish in the region.

Mad Rush for Chicken

Individuals interested in receiving the gift packs were required to be at the Huaguoyuan station by 8:55 a.m. for the distribution. Despite mentioning limited quantities in their promotional statement, the crowd did not disperse. When the train arrived, chaos ensued as people crowded into the subway cars.

Social Media Backlash

Videos shared on Chinese social media platforms depicted the overwhelming turnout at the subway station. People were seen pushing and shoving to get their hands on the free fried chicken. The situation escalated as station staff struggled to maintain order amidst the commotion.

Criticism and Feedback

Following the chaotic event, Chinese internet users criticized the snack company's promotional strategy. Concerns were raised about the safety of such giveaways, especially considering the presence of older individuals in the crowd. Some suggested holding similar events on non-working days to avoid disrupting daily routines.

Local media outlets interviewed subway staff who acknowledged the need for improved security measures during such promotions. With Guiyang being a bustling city with a significant population, ensuring public safety during mass giveaways is crucial.

Unfortunately, instances of promotional events leading to chaos are not uncommon. Past incidents, both in China and globally, have highlighted the importance of proper planning and crowd control measures during such activities.
