If this was the year companies adopted AI to stay competitive, next year will likely be about customizing AI solutions for their specific needs.
AI 2.0: The Evolution of Custom Solutions
The next phase of development will move beyond generic LLMs towards tuned and highly optimized end-to-end solutions that address the specific objectives of a business. Aidan Gomez, the CEO and cofounder of Cohere, an AI company building technology for enterprises, shared on LinkedIn that the future of AI will be about accelerating adoption, creating value, and transforming how businesses operate. He believes that every company will eventually become an AI company.
Partnerships for Customized Solutions
Cohere has collaborated with industry giants like Oracle and Fujitsu to develop tailored business solutions. With Oracle, customized technology has been deployed to power numerous production AI features across Netsuite and Fusion Apps. Additionally, Cohere created a model named Takane for Fujitsu, specifically optimized for Japanese language capabilities.
Last June, Cohere joined forces with McKinsey & Company to provide customized generative AI solutions for the consulting firm's clients. This collaboration has helped establish trust among more organizations and expand Cohere's reach.
The Shift Towards Efficient AI Models
To cater to diverse client requirements, Gomez emphasizes the importance of smaller, more efficient AI models. He asserts that these models are not only cost-effective compared to larger language models but also level the playing field for smaller startups against industry giants.
Capitalizing on Customization
While smaller companies lead the way in custom AI solutions, major players are also embracing this trend. OpenAI's recent unveiling during the "Shipmas" campaign showcased the ability for users to fine-tune their latest AI model, o1, using their own datasets. This advancement enables users to leverage reinforcement-learning algorithms to customize their models, with plans to make the technology publicly available next year.
OpenAI has already partnered with companies like Thomson Reuters to develop specialized legal tools and researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to create computational models for identifying genetic diseases, demonstrating the vast potential of customized AI solutions in various industries.
Despite the growing demand for tailored AI solutions, Cohere did not provide immediate comments to Business Insider's request for further insights.
