Disney's Chief Financial Officer, Hugh Johnston, recently shared insights on the opening of Universal Studios' new theme park, Epic Universe. During a call, Johnston expressed optimism about the upcoming attraction and its potential effects on Disney's Florida theme parks.
Positive Outlook on Epic Universe's Impact
Johnston mentioned that the early bookings for the summer following Epic Universe's debut in May 2025 are looking promising. He emphasized that the opening of new attractions and theme parks in Central Florida is generally advantageous for Disney.
Anticipated Rise in Tourism
Dennis Speigel, the founder of International Theme Park Services, Inc., highlighted that Epic Universe's launch is expected to draw more visitors to Central Florida, benefiting the local attractions industry. He predicted an increase in tourists' length of stay in the region due to the additional entertainment options available.
Overview of Epic Universe
Epic Universe, announced by NBCUniversal in 2019, represents a significant investment for Comcast NBCUniversal in its theme park business. The new park will feature five distinct worlds, including Super Nintendo World, The Ministry of Magic, the Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and Celestial Park.
Disney's Response
Meanwhile, Disney revealed plans to enhance its existing properties rather than build a separate theme park. Magic Kingdom, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disneyland Resort will all see new additions and expansions, including lands dedicated to popular franchises like Disney villains, "Cars," "Encanto," "Indiana Jones," "Monsters, Inc," and "Avatar."
Financial Growth Projection
Disney anticipates a 6% to 8% growth in operating income for its Experiences segment compared to 2024, as highlighted in the latest earnings report.
As Central Florida's attractions landscape continues to evolve with the addition of Epic Universe and Disney's expansion plans, visitors can look forward to an enriched and diverse theme park experience in the region.
