Twitter suspended several high-profile journalists covering Elon Musk’s story on Thursday. Elon Musk later visited Twitter Spaces to answer reporters who asked why. Listen to the entire exchange below.

Twitter suspended several prominent journalists’ accounts late Thursday. A Twitter Spaces discussion about the matter featuring Elon Musk was held shortly afterwards.

Many reporters who cover tech, such as Musk and Twitter, had their Twitter accounts removed without explanation or warning on Thursday. Ryan Mac of The New York Times and Donie O’Sullivan of CNN are among them. Drew Harwell of The Washington Post and Matt Binder of Mashable were also affected. Micah Flee of The Intercept and Steve Herman of Voice of America were also affected. Tony Webster and Keith Olbermann were independent journalists.

Many of them had tweeted recently about @ElonJet’s Twitter account. It is run by Jack Sweeney, a college student. The account tracks Musk’s private plane using public flight data online. Twitter suspended the account despite Musk’s claim to be a freedom-speech absolutist tweeting in November saying that he would not.

Musk stated Wednesday that any account that doesxxes real-time location information of anyone will be removed as it is a violation of physical safety. This includes posting links on sites that provide real-time location information.

The reporters were still allowed to use Twitter Spaces despite the suspensions. A number of reporters joined Jack Sweeney, @ElonJet’s account manager, in a Spaces call hosted Katie Notopoulos, BuzzFeed News tech reporter, to discuss the suspensions. Musk briefly joined the call. Musk repeated his statement that he was going to suspend anyone who doxes him. Musk abruptly left shortly after.

Twitter Spaces was later shut down by Musk. However, several Twitter users captured the exchange between Musk & the reporters. It’s available here:
