Elon Musk, a billionaire and Fox News host Tucker Carlson's second interview in a series of meandering conversations that aired on Tuesday, aired some of his controversial views about population decline.
Musk said that during the discussion the urge to reproduce has been "subverted", leading to a population decline.

Carlson asked the billionaire Tesla and SpaceX owner to elaborate on his idea.
Why is this? After breathing and eating, the desire to have sex is the most fundamental urge. How has this been subverted?" Carlson said.
"Well, I guess in the past, we could have relied on, you know simple limbic rewards to procreate." Musk responded that, "Once you have birth-control and abortions, you can still satisfy your limbic instinct but not procreate."
Musk went on to say that humans aren't ready to handle this because birth control and abortion are relatively recent developments.
Musk continued, "I'm worried that civilization will crumble if we can't produce enough people to sustain or even increase our numbers a bit."
The old question, "Will civilization end with bang or whimper?" It's trying to end in adult diapers with a whimper, which is as depressing and hellish.
They all agreed that the situation was "depressing".
Musk has claimed for years that the population decline is a grave danger to civilization. He tweeted in 2022, "Population collapse due low birth rates are a greater risk to civilization than climate change."
Demographic experts, however, disagree. They told Insider that in 2022, global birth rates will likely continue to rise this century before gradually leveling off.
