Do thrifting interests you, readers? Hi, my name is Emilia David. I have made it my goal to shop as much secondhand as possible.
In the past few years, second-hand shopping has become more popular. ThredUp, an online consignment site, has released a new report showing that 30% of Gen Z purchased used items in order to purchase high-end labels. This is not a generational thing. My apartment was furnished primarily with second-hand furniture.
While I plan to go thrifting this weekend let's get on with today's tech news.

1. Elon Musk's personal ambitions in AI. Elon Musk was a prominent name in an open letter calling to halt AI development. Asia Martin, my teammate, points out that Musk’s position on AI has been contradicted by Twitter’s investment in generative AI.
- Detractors of the call for AI to be paused claimed that there is an element of self-interest in asking a moratorium on developing new AI models. Twitter recently purchased hardware that is normally used for developing generative AI products. This shows how ambitious this ambition is.
- Although it's not clear what Twitter will use its new graphics processor units (GPUs), the investment indicates that Musk and Twitter are intensifying their push into AI.
- Musk is critical of AI and OpenAI in general. He also openly opposes ChatGPT creator OpenAI which he co-founded.
