- Elon Musk’s Neuralink has received approval to test brain implant technology on humans.
- Although recruitment is not yet open, people online say they don't want to be involved.
- The backlash against Musk is largely a result of a perceived distrust for him, not technology itself.
Elon Musk’s Neuralink claims that it is now allowed to implant brain implants into humans. The internet, however, is not happy about the idea.
The comments on Neuralink's tweet of Thursday, announcing that the federal authorities had approved its first clinical study on humans, were full of praises and good wishes from verified accounts – people who have paid for a Twitter membership.
Not everyone was happy about the approval of Neuralink's test — in the land of the checkmarkless, the reaction is a collective "hell no."
One user tweeted: "The first guys in line will still be apes."
Just say "NOPE!" Another writer wrote:
It's not surprising that the backlash has been so strong, considering the announcement was about a technology that literally implants a chip into your brain. Skynet is still causing people to be terrified on the internet. Musk has said that he believes nefarious artificial intelligence is a real possibility.
Musk was the main target of these negative remarks, and not Neuralink. Neuralink claims to be working on implants that will assist paralyzed individuals, an accomplishment recently achieved by Swiss researchers.
Musk was not able to convince everyone that his technology would be put to good use.
One Twitter user wrote: "If you think this is the use you expect him to make of it, you are delusional."
Another tweeted: "No faith or trust in him, or anything that he has anything to do with."
Many people have posted GIFs with exploding head, which are likely to be referring to past explosive hiccups by Musk's companies like Teslas catching on fire spontaneously or reports of hundreds of animals that were tested by Neuralink having died.

The billionaire trades in ambitious ideas such as living on Mars, driving self-driving vehicles, solving the traffic problem, and encouraging people to use the internet responsibly.
Musk said that this was to be expected. The Boring Company's hailed Washington D.C., and Los Angeles projects have stalled out by 2021.

On Wednesday, technical issues with Musk's Twitter Spaces caused a disastrous beginning for Florida Governor. The site was overloaded by hundreds of thousands during Ron DeSantis 2024 announcement.
One Twitter user joked: "Elon has already shown this week that he is the man with the attention to technical detail you can trust with brain implants."
Some people have asked Musk to test his brain implant on himself.
They shouldn't be waiting long. Musk stated in December that the human trials would be ready when he was.
It remains to be determined whether the billionaire CEO and father of ten actually has the chip in his brain.
