During their conversation, Hassabis raised concerns about the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in Musk's Mars colonization plans. He warned Musk that the presence of AI on Mars could lead to the destruction of human colonies. This revelation left Musk stunned.
Elon Musk's Investment in DeepMind
Following their discussion, Musk decided to invest in DeepMind, the AI company founded by Hassabis. He was compelled to learn more about the technology and its implications for Mars colonization. Musk's investment was made alongside Peter Thiel. In 2014, Google acquired DeepMind for $500 million.
Musk's Growing Concerns about AI
Elon Musk has since become a vocal critic of the potential dangers posed by AI. During Tesla's investor day in March, Musk expressed his worries about AI, stating the need for regulatory oversight to ensure it operates in the public interest.
