On Sunday, Elon Musk polled his followers to see if they wanted him to resign as head of Twitter. Musk posted, “I will abide the results,” and soon after, the poll showed that Musk was in favor of leaving Twitter. This is despite the fact that Twitter has been in constant controversy since October’s billionaire acquisition.
Elon Musk asked his Twitter followers on Sunday if they wanted him to resign as head of Twitter amid ongoing controversy and concerns from advertisers.
“Should i resign as chief of Twitter?” Musk wrote, “I will abide by these poll results.”

It is not clear who will replace Musk, or when he might step down as CEO of the company.
The poll received over two million votes within 30 minutes of its posting. Musk was slightly favored in the end, with the results favoring him. At the time of publication 56.7% of respondents had voted “yes” to Musk’s question.
Musk also tweeted a separate message after creating the poll: “Be careful what you wish for, because you might get it.”
Musk has taken over the social platform and made many policy decisions based on user polls. These include whether to suspend the account of former President Donald Trump, other banned users, and restore accounts of journalists who he claimed “doxxed him” by reporting about the location of his private plane.
Twitter continues to face criticism and hate speech. There has been an exodus from influential users and advertisers and threats of sanctions international since Musk’s $44 billion acquisition in Oct.
Insider reached out to Musk and Twitter representatives but they did not respond immediately.
