Elon Musk's Disapproval of Joe Biden
Elon Musk has made it clear that he does not hold a favorable opinion of Joe Biden. During Christmas Eve, Musk criticized the US president for excluding Tesla from the White House EV summit in 2021. This incident has become a recurring point of contention whenever Musk expresses his dissatisfaction with Biden.
Musk's Christmas Thoughts on Biden
It seems that Elon Musk couldn't help but have Joe Biden on his mind during the Christmas holidays. The Tesla CEO took the opportunity to voice his disappointment with the president's treatment of his company. In a post on X, Musk wrote, "Let's not forget the White House giving Tesla the cold shoulder, excluding us from the EV summit and crediting GM with 'leading the electric car revolution' in the same quarter that they delivered 26 electric cars (not a typo) and Tesla delivered 300 thousand."
Biden's Alleged Union Influence
Expanding on his criticisms, Musk accused Biden of being influenced by unions. He claimed that the unions have more sway within the Democratic Party than environmentalists do, with Biden being particularly beholden to them. Musk referenced a speech by Biden in May 2021 where the president stated, "the UAW elected me." Musk emphasized that the White House's disregard for Tesla began well before he made any controversial statements.
The Ongoing Frustration over Tesla's Exclusion
Tesla's exclusion from Biden's EV summit in 2021 has been a major point of frustration for Musk. He has repeatedly mentioned this incident, including at The New York Times Dealbook Summit last month. During the summit, Musk expressed his dissatisfaction by stating, "They held an electric vehicle summit at the White House and specifically refused to let Tesla attend. Biden went on to add insult to injury and publicly said GM was leading the electric car revolution."
Musk's Changing Political Allegiances
The strained relationship between Musk and Biden likely contributes to the CEO's shifting political allegiances. Despite previously expressing support for Barack Obama, Musk revealed that he would not be voting for Biden's reelection. Instead, in November 2022, Musk voiced his support for GOP presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. In an X post, Musk stated, "My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would be the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far."
Representatives for Musk and Biden have not responded to requests for comment from Business Insider outside regular business hours.
