- Elon Musk's sweeping rebranding of Twitter as "X" went into effect on Monday.
- While the new logo was being introduced, there were efforts underway in San Francisco to remove a Twitter sign.
- Insider confirmed that SFPD investigated "a possible street closure without a permit".
Elon Musk uploaded the "X" symbols to Twitter's website seemingly overnight. However, it could take a little longer for the sign in front of his company's headquarters to be changed.
On Monday afternoon, police arrived to help remove "Twitter's" letters from a massive sign attached to the building.
It seems that the issue was the crane used to remove the letter and the amount of space it took on the street.
According to the San Francisco Standard, the San Francisco Police Department halted work Monday afternoon to speak to workers who were tasked with taking down the sign. The outlet reported that the letters "er" remained standing despite the interruption.

SFPD informed Insider that they responded to a call about "a possible street closure without permission" as a crane was used outside Twitter's HQ in the city to remove letters from the Twitter sign. The statement said that the officers "determined that no crime had been committed and this incident was a non-police matter."
A spokesperson for the SFPD refused to comment further than the statement. A representative was not available to comment on an inquiry sent to Twitter’s press address. The automated response read, "We will get back to you shortly." Shorenstein, owner of the building declined to comment.
Insider was told by two sources familiar with the company that employees were not informed of the removal. One person said that a large crane "showed" up and started dismantling sign. It is assumed that the sign will be replaced by the "X" logo Musk uses to rebrand Twitter which was incorporated into his X Holdings last year.

The Market Street office employees were able to see the crane blocking traffic in the cross street. This is a busy part of San Francisco. The crane was parked on a lane that is normally used for through traffic and caused traffic at times to back up. One of those familiar with the situation said that when the police arrived in the early afternoon they started directing traffic around a crane.
The person stated that due to the disturbance the police stopped the removal of signage before it was completed.
