Elon Musk's much-anticipated live interview with former President Donald Trump encountered significant technical issues before it even began on Monday. The incident occurred on X, the social media platform owned by Musk, as thousands of users tried to join the live discussion scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
Technical Glitches and System Scaling Tests
Despite Musk's assurance on Sunday that he had conducted multiple system scaling tests in preparation for the interview, the platform malfunctioned for many users. Some individuals reported being unable to join the conversation and received a message stating that the space was not available.
This incident brought back memories of a similar technical mishap during Musk's interview with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis last year. DeSantis' attempt to kick off his presidential campaign in 2024 was delayed by nearly 30 minutes after X (then known as Twitter) crashed while trying to accommodate nearly 500,000 listeners.
Unscripted Conversation and Political Shift
Prior to the interview, Musk live-streamed himself gaming twice as part of his preparation, attracting 2.1 million and 1.3 million views, respectively. He promoted the discussion with Trump as an "unscripted" conversation "with no limits on subject matter."
While Musk had previously steered clear of politics during elections, he has taken a more right-leaning stance in recent months. In July, he officially endorsed Trump for president and has become more politically active since acquiring Twitter in October 2022 and rebranding it as X. Musk now frequently shares right-wing ideologies and campaigns against anti-wokeism.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
