Elon Musk has set a high bar for employees at X, demanding an "extremely hardcore" work ethic. Now, in a new development, staff members are instructed to provide a detailed account of their contributions to the company to secure their stock options, as reported by The Verge.
Elon Musk's Stringent Work Environment
Since Musk assumed control of X in 2022, employees have grappled with late-night meetings and even sleeping in the office to meet the demanding expectations set by the CEO.
New Expectations for Stock Options
Following Musk's acquisition of Twitter in 2022, he made it clear that employees would need to operate at an "extremely hardcore" level to shape the future of Twitter 2.0. Now, employees are required to justify why they deserve their stock options.
According to reports from The Verge, Musk communicated to the staff via email that stock options would be granted based on the impact of the employees and necessitated a one-page summary outlining their contributions to X.
Furthermore, employees are still awaiting their annual equity refresher, originally anticipated in April.
Unwavering Commitment to Intense Work Ethic
Almost two years ago, Musk issued a well-known ultimatum to X employees, emphasizing the need for "long hours at a high intensity" and a hardcore work approach. Those unwilling to meet these standards were encouraged to seek opportunities elsewhere, resulting in approximately half of the workforce opting out.
Current employees who chose to stay have witnessed Musk's dedication to his promise. Former employees recount instances of being compelled to work overnight at the office to meet challenging deadlines. Musk has also shared images of engineers working late hours on X projects.
Moving Forward
X is in the process of relocating its headquarters to Texas and shutting down its San Francisco office. However, X's CEO Linda Yaccarino assured employees that the company would maintain a presence in the Bay Area by sharing space with xAI in Palo Alto.
Gergely Orosz, a former engineer from Uber and Skype, described X as "the definition of a ruthless workplace," highlighting the intense expectations placed on employees compared to other tech companies.
X has refrained from commenting on the recent developments as the request for a response was made outside regular working hours.
