Concerns over Elon Musk's drug use
Elon Musk's drug use has raised concerns among his business associates and board members, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Larry Ellison's invitation
Former Tesla director Larry Ellison, who is also the billionaire cofounder of Oracle, urged Musk to visit Hawaii to "recover" from his drug use, according to sources familiar with the offer.
Friends encouraging rehab
Musk's friends were also encouraging him to go to rehab, coinciding with Ellison's invitation, as stated in the report.
Musk's drug use worries
Musk's drug use, including substances such as LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and ketamine, worried his business associates and board members to the extent that they suggested rehab or a break from work to "recover," The Wall Street Journal revealed.
Larry Ellison's concern
Larry Ellison, being a close friend of Musk's, expressed his concern about Musk's worsening drug use and proposed the trip to Hawaii as a means for Musk to relax and address his substance abuse issues.
Culture of peer pressure
The Journal's report also highlighted that Musk's extensive drug use had created a culture of peer pressure among his friends and board directors, who felt obliged to partake in drug use to maintain their social status.
No response from Musk or Ellison
Neither Elon Musk, Larry Ellison, nor their lawyers, Alex Spiro and Christopher Muzzi, responded to requests for comment from Business Insider.
Musk's experimentation with drugs
Musk, known for his experimentation with psychedelics, has reportedly tried substances like ketamine, LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms, according to The Journal's extensive reporting.
Previous repercussions
Musk's drug use has previously caused issues for him and his companies. After smoking marijuana on a Joe Rogan podcast, NASA required SpaceX to adhere to federal guidelines on drug use in the workplace, resulting in training costing $5 million.
Musk has also revealed that he has a prescription for ketamine, which some recent research suggests can be used to treat depression.
Health risks associated with Musk's drug use
Experts have warned that Musk's reported use of hard drugs, especially at his age (52 years old), carries several health risks, including irregular heartbeat, incontinence, and potential psychosis if the user has bipolar disorder.
In 2017, Musk hinted at having bipolar disorder in a tweet to his followers.
