- Fox News informed Tucker Carlson's lawyers that he had breached his contract by his new Twitter show.
- Carlson left Fox News at the end of April after the network reached a record settlement with Dominion.
- Carlson’s lawyer argues that Fox News infringes on Carlson’s right to free speech.
Fox News informed Tucker Carlson’s attorneys that he breached contract by creating a streaming show on Twitter on Tuesday, according to an Axios report.
Carlson, who announced he was starting a show in Twitter a month ago, posted a monologue video on Tuesday.
According to Axios' report, Fox News general counsel sent Carlson's lawyer a letter saying that Carlson was in breach. This could lead to a lawsuit.
According to Axios, the general counsel of Fox, Bernar Gugar, wrote: "Pursuant the terms and conditions of the Agreement, the'services' provided by Mr. Carlson shall be exclusively for Fox."
Carlson, formerly Fox News' primetime host and former star of the network, was removed from the airwaves on April 24, this year. This came less than a month after Fox News settled with Dominion Voting Systems over a $787.5-million defamation lawsuit.
Since Carlson was fired, speculation has centered on the reasons why, the leakage of embarrassing messages redacted from the Dominion suit, and the dispute between the two parties about Carlson’s contract that runs until January 2025.
Fox News wants to pay Carlson for as long as possible and keep him away from rival broadcasters.
Carlson, for his part, was already preparing for possible legal action. Carlson's lawyer accused Fox News in early May of fraud and breach of contract. This was before Carlson announced that he would bring his show to twitter.
Bryan Freedman's lawyer, Carlson, said that Fox defends itself on the basis of freedom of speech. "Now, they want to take Tucker Carlson’s right to freely speak away from him for using social media to express his views on current events."
Fox News and Carlson's lawyer did not immediately respond to a comment request.
