- The Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedan has a sleek design and impressive driving range.
- According to the EPA, it can travel 361 miles without charging up.
- The maximum range of Tesla's Model 3 is 358 miles
Hyundai's newest electric car is not designed with a dolphin-like, slippery shape. It was created by Hyundai because it looks cool. (It does.) It was not decided to honor one the most intelligent nonhuman beings on Earth. (They should be running the show, if you ask my opinion.)
Aerodynamics is the key to the smooth and sleek profile of the Ioniq 6 sedan. Minimal drag is the key to electric cars' maximum range. For EV buyers, being able to travel long distances without needing to recharge is an important advantage.
Hyundai's hard work paid off. The EPA gave the Ioniq 6 a range estimate of up 361 miles. This is three miles more than Tesla’s uber-successful Model 3. Elon Musk has one more reason to be worried about this achievement as competitors like Ford, Hyundai, and Polestar produce increasingly competitive products that eat into his company’s sales.

This is the rating for Ioniq 6 SE RWD Long Range. The same model, but with all-wheel drive, is EPA-rated at 316 mi. The Ioniq 6 has the lowest range and gets an estimated 270 miles.
Base, rear-wheel drive Model 3 provides 272 miles of EPA range. Long Range versions go 358 miles per charge. The comparison to Hyundai isn’t just one-sided, as the most expensive Model 3 has all-wheel drive.
According to the EPA, the Ioniq 6 is also the country's most efficient EV.
Hyundai has not yet revealed the price of the Ioniq 6 when it arrives in dealerships this spring. It looks like it will be one of the most attractive EV options available.
Correction: February 2, 2023 — An earlier version incorrectly stated that Ioniq 6 would offer two sizes of batteries. It will only offer one.
