Happy Friday! Are you planning on binge-watching any shows this weekend? Well, get ready because soon you might find yourself tuning into Chick-fil-A TV. It may sound whimsical, but brands launching their own shows could be the future of entertainment.
Insights into Microsoft's Compensation Landscape
An unofficial document has leaked, shedding light on pay packages across Microsoft, highlighting one particular group that is receiving generous rewards.
Key Points to Note
Markets: Jamie Dimon could potentially find himself in Washington, irrespective of the outcome of the upcoming elections.
Tech: AI is expected to be less profitable compared to previous waves of technology.
Business: Sports betting is negatively impacting the financial situations of some Americans.
Delving into AI Compensation at Microsoft
One of the significant challenges at many workplaces is discussing salaries. However, at Microsoft, hundreds of employees voluntarily share their pay and promotion details to gain insights into how their compensation stacks up against their peers.
According to Business Insider's Ashley Stewart, an unofficial spreadsheet includes over 500 submissions from individuals self-identifying as Microsoft employees in the US. The data provides insights into the average total compensation, base pay, cash bonuses/stock awards, and raise/bonus percentages for Microsoft software engineers across various levels.
Microsoft's compensation data offers a comprehensive view of a tech giant's salary ranges, especially considering its recent history of pay adjustments.
In response to employees feeling underpaid compared to tech peers like Amazon, Microsoft increased compensation in 2022 through stock grants and salary hikes for most employees, excluding the most senior ones. However, the company later implemented a salary freeze and reduced bonus and stock award budgets, only to restart performance-based raises this year.
Notably, the average total compensation for software engineers in Microsoft's new AI organization stands at $377,611, significantly higher than other departments like Azure, Cloud, and Experiences and Devices. The AI group, established in March to bolster Microsoft's consumer-AI strategy, is led by Mustafa Suleyman, a DeepMind cofounder.
While the self-reported pay data offers valuable insights, it also highlights a noticeable pay gap between the Microsoft AI division and the rest of the company.
