- Elon Musk’s free-speech town square is more like a robbery by a mob.
- Twitter users aren't interested in Tucker Carlson, Florida Governor or other politicians. Ron DeSantis.
- Musk forces right-wing figures on users.
A good heist movie has a few common elements: a scheming leader, misfits who are devoted to the cause, high-risk hostage situations, and a general sense of chaos. So went Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis launched his presidential campaign on Twitter.
Florida Governor. Elon Musk, David Sacks, a libertarian venture investor and long-time Elon Musk ally, hosted a Twitter Spaces Call on Wednesday. The direction was clear.
DeSantis, without being challenged, said: "We must restore the sanity in our nation." "Replacing a woke mind virus by reality, facts and enduring principles."
This is a culmination moment for Musk, his followers and their supporters who view Twitter as a means to force their vision of freedom of speech onto its unknowing users. Linda Yaccarino, the incoming CEO of Twitter, looks like a second yes-woman.
She tweeted on Wednesday night, "Tonight's Reflection — We just heard a rare, unscripted, conversation on a variety of important topics with a Presidential Candidate — launched all on Twitter." "That's historical. Let's do more. "Freedom of speech is priceless."
Musk’s cabal now controls the world

Musk's primary motivation for completing his take-private deal with Twitter in October was to create "a common digital city square," in his own words.
Musk and Sacks were clearly gleeful during the DeSantis phone call, proving that Twitter is more of a playground – a place ruled by loud voices.
Sacks asked DeSantis light questions on sensitive topics, such as the government policies implemented during the COVID-19 Pandemic and his feud with Disney. The governor's answers were not checked. Sacks stated, "I believe we need a ruthless assassin with a cool head to fight the woke mob."
Musk's vision of the app is holding Twitter's 360 million users hostage, many of whom do not reside in the US. The direction of travel has been made clear. Tucker Carlson, former Fox News host, is preparing to launch a new primetime program on the platform to get back to the truth. Carlson stated that "at its most basic level, all the news you receive is a lie."
Unchecked narratives are likely to be a permanent feature of the app if Carlson brings along his Fox News shtick.
Musk's Twitter could be a success where right-wing apps have failed
There have been other apps that tried to do what Musk's Twitter does now. Truth Social, Donald Trump's rival on Twitter, and the right-wing video website Rumble have both failed to attract a large following.
Twitter's mix of fast news, expert networks and current affairs updates is unmatched. Many Twitter alternatives are emerging, but it is notoriously difficult to recreate the network effects.
This means that Twitter users are likely to stay put, even if the situation feels more and more like a hostage crisis.
