- A former employee of Twitter lost her company's health insurance one week before she gave birth, according to reports.
- CNN reported that Bim Ali was just weeks away from starting her maternity leave, and she was then laid off.
- Ali stated to the outlet that she was spending more time with her baby than searching for a job.
Twitter laid off a woman before she went on maternity leaves. She reportedly lost her company's health insurance one week before her baby was born.
CNN reported that Bim Ali was a Redbird core technology team program manager when she was laid off in Elon Musk’s first round mass cuts.
According to the news outlet, her last day on Twitter was January 4, one week before her baby was born. CNN reports that her access to health insurance provided by the company ended on this date, as did her access to it for her and her family.
Musk sent an email on November 4 to laid-off employees. He then followed up the email with a tweet stating that all former employees had been offered three months' severance. Many employees complained about delays in the severance agreements.
CNN reported Ali was one of 1,500 ex-Twitter employees who are now suing the company.
Insider's request to comment was not immediately answered by either Ali or Twitter representatives. This was outside of US business hours.
Ali stated to CNN that she has been spending the past two months with her baby rather than searching for a job. She said, "But I'm no longer being financially supported as I had planned." "We must find a way to stay afloat."
Ali stated that she chose to stay at the company despite months of back and forth before Musk's takeover. Ali told the news outlet that she was happy in her job and that her pregnancy meant that it didn't make sense to leave.
Recent tech layoffs have resulted in multiple employees who were on parental leave losing their jobs. Rachel Bonn was eight months pregnant at the time when her access to her laptop from work was cut suddenly during the November layoffs.
