Reuters reported that some Tesla workers celebrated the cancellation of service appointments by playing a metal xylophone bought by a supervisor.

This detail comes from a Reuters report that says Tesla had so many complaints about its driving ranges, it set up a secret cancellation team.

Electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla, advertises that its Model 3 can travel 374 miles with a fully charged battery. However, some owners report ranges less than half this, especially in cold weather.

Insider reported in January that one driver claimed that his Tesla rental battery was so easily depleted by cold weather, he had to recharge it almost every hour.

Reuters reported that a Model 3 owner booked a service visit to investigate a similar problem, but Tesla claimed "remote diagnosis" had found no issue and the appointment was canceled.

According to Reuters, the team was in Las Vegas to cancel as many appointments related to ranges as possible.

The xylophone ceremony was performed in this office, where some employees were reported to have stood up on their desks and applauded cancellations.

Tesla managers told their staff that each cancellation would save the company $1,000, according to Reuters.

Tesla's vehicles were over-hyped, even though there may have never been a problem.

Tesla's market capitalization of $828 billion makes it the largest EV company on the planet, but Reuters investigation is just the latest of a long line of controversies.

The Washington Post reports that the Autopilot feature has also been criticized for being involved in 19 fatalities since 2019.

Tesla has not responded to Insider's comment request immediately.
