- Ron DeSantis is being tracked by the same student who previously tracked Elon Musk's private plane.
- Jack Sweeney has created a Twitter account to track the state-owned aircraft of the Governor.
- Twitter privacy rules require that @DeSantisJet tweets with a 24-hour-delay.
The student who tracked Elon Musk’s private jet via Twitter decided to do the same for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Jack Sweeney is a student from the University of Central Florida. He has created a Twitter account called @DeSantisJet to track the government owned jet that the politician uses.
Insider reported that he opened the account due to the growing interest in DeSantis who is expected to announce his intentions to run for the Republican presidential nomination 2024 next week.
On May 11, the Governor signed into law a bill that will redact all details of his trips, whether they are on state planes or private chartered flights. This includes names of family and staff members who travel with him.
ADS-B Exchange is a platform for flight tracking that makes data publicly available. This will allow you to track the movements of this state-owned aircraft. ADS-B allows satellites track aircrafts, which helps to avoid collisions.
The account claims to track a 10-seat Textron Jet with the tail number of N943FL owned by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It sent its first tweet on Friday night.

Sweeney was in the news when Musk offered to pay him $5,000 for him to delete the Twitter account which tracked his private jet. Sweeney declined, so Musk, after taking control of Twitter and suspending the @ElonJet Twitter account, did it.
Musk stated in an interview with BBC News earlier this year, that Sweeney "used non-public information along with public information to track [his] movements." This "arguably" constituted "doxing." Musk didn't specify what non-public data he thought Sweeney used.
The student was able to circumvent the ban by creating an account called @ElonJetNextDay. This account posts flight tracking data with a 24 hour delay in order to comply with Twitter’s updated privacy policies that prohibit users from sharing other people's live locations.
DeSantis will also tweet the plane's location with a 24-hour-delay.
DeSantis, who has a long-running feud with Disney, has been in the spotlight for the past few weeks. Disney accused DeSantis of "weaponizing government power" by attacking the Florida governor's efforts to target the company's self-governing powers within the state.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Disney reversed its decision on Thursday to build a corporate campus worth nearly $1 billion in Florida.
Insider's request for a comment was not responded to by DeSantis’s office.
