SpaceX is Elon Musk's greatest success story. SpaceX has grown to be a major player within the space industry since Elon Musk founded it in 2002.
SpaceX launches are fairly frequent. NASA reports that all of SpaceX's Florida launches are conducted at Cape Canaveral Space Force Base and Kennedy Space Center.
The Friday, July 28, 12:01 am. Falcon 9 successfully launched 22 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit at Space Launch Complex 40, Cape Canaveral Space Force Base (Florida).
SpaceX had previously launched 54 Starlink Satellites with a Falcon 9 Rocket on July 15, according to the SpaceX website. According to the SpaceX site, SpaceX launched 22 Starlink satellites in orbit on July 9, before that. On July 7, it had launched 48 Starlink Satellites two days earlier.
SpaceX's last non-Starlink launch was the European Space Agency Euclid space telescope, designed to map the structure of our universe. The last time it worked with NASA was on June 30th, when SpaceX Dragon returned from the International Space Station.
SpaceX was not always a darling of the industry. In 2008, three SpaceX launches failed and the company almost went bankrupt.
Musk said that the fourth attempt was SpaceX's last chance to be viable. It was this last ditch effort that made SpaceX, the first private company, to launch an orbital rocket successfully. This success encouraged NASA, as well as some private investors, to invest more.
Musk partially funded the company with PayPal, which he sold to eBay. He invested a quarter of his fortune in the venture and received $278 million dollars from NASA. The United States Department of Defense also provided funding.
Falcon 1 was the company's first rocket and cost $100 million.
