- Chinese electric-car manufacturer BYD posted a video showing its Yangwang U9 supercar.
- The luxury vehicle will be capable of jumping and bouncing off the ground.
- BYD demonstrated the U9's body control system.
It is so yesterday that cars can only move forward and backward. Electric vehicles with super-powered motors that can move side to side, up and down? This is the future.
Chinese Tesla competitor BYD demonstrated this to the world on Monday.
A video of a BYD event that was posted to Twitter shows the upcoming Yangwang U9 dancing side-to-side as it drives slowly across the stage. The car then squats low, and leaps up, appearing to be an inch or so above the ground.

The U9 can be seen in a separate clip while it drives and balances on only three wheels.

This was all to demonstrate BYD's new DiSus control system. According to the automaker, it increases safety and agility. BYD claims it helps to avoid rollovers and high-speed cornering. Hoping off the ground and jumping seems more fun than a safety feature.
It's a feature found in many Mercedes SUVs that causes the vehicle to bounce up and down. This feature is supposed to assist you in getting out of trouble in off-road situations but it will also impress a crowd.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised some extraordinary capabilities for its Roadster supercar. He also said that it would be able to hover at short distances using cold-air thrusters. However, the vehicle is still far from being produced.
China's automaker is quickly catching up with Tesla, the global leader in EV sales. The brand's luxury Yangwang brand will compete with top-end manufacturers. It will offer two models, the U9 and the U8, a Land Rover-esque SUV.
The U8, which is expected to cost around $150,000, has some unique party tricks. The U8 can spin in any direction thanks to four motors that can spin independently of each other, as BYD demonstrated.
