  • Tesla's entry level Model 3 sedan costs now $39,990 following the latest price reduction by the company.
  • Elon Musk's carmaker has cut the price several times in this year to boost sales.
  • In March, the average price of a new electric vehicle was $58,940.

Teslas have never been cheaper after a series price cuts made by Elon Musk’s automaker in this year.

Tesla's entry level Model 3 has dropped from $41,990 to just $39,990 overnight. Tesla reduced the price of the sedan on Tuesday, after the new federal tax credit rules for electric vehicles went into effect. Model 3 base is eligible for $3,750 instead of the maximum $7,500 credit.

The cheapest battery pack for the Model 3 is Chinese. This means that buyers are not eligible for the full incentive. This favors vehicles manufactured in North America, using components and minerals from North America. The rear-wheel drive car boasts a range of 272 miles and a time from 0-60 mph of just 5.8 seconds.

Tesla has also slashed the prices of all Model Y SUVs across the board by $3,000 Tesla recently added a cheaper Model Y to its website, which was previously an off-menu choice. This vehicle is now starting at $46,990, before incentives. It was previously $49,990.

Tesla models are priced as follows:

  • Model 3: $39,990
  • Model 3 Performance: $52,990
  • Model Y: $46,990
  • Model Y Long Range: $49,990
  • Model Y Performance: $53,990
  • Model X: $94,990
  • Model X Plaid: $104,990
  • Model S: $84,990
  • Model S Plaid: $104,990
