The benefits of technology work are rapidly disappearing.

Breaking: Elon Musk asked Twitter users on Sunday night if they wanted him to “step down” as Twitter’s head — and he said he would abide by the results. Just moments ago, the poll was closed with 57% of respondents voting for Musk’s resignation. We will keep you informed of any developments.

1. Be prepared to say goodbye the tech industry’s snobby perks. As they attempt to withstand a recession and a difficult market, more companies have been offering perks over the past year. It still feels like the end for many, even though workers’ salaries will not drop significantly,

Meta cut $1,000 from its health and wellbeing benefits per employee after cancelling on-site laundry and a $200-a month Lyft subsidy program. It also reduced its free-food budget. Salesforce joined the trend by reducing its “wellbeing” days for fiscal year 2024. Salesforce followed the trend and cut its “wellbeing days” for fiscal year 2024. This is a change from ten years ago, when perks were a way for companies to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Tech management now has the upper hand in many workers’ career. With layoffs plaguing the industry, those who are still working want to keep their jobs.

2. Elon Musk stated that there is no successor to his position as Twitter CEO. Musk responded to a Twitter user who thought Musk had chosen a successor. He wrote that “no one wants to be the person who can keep Twitter alive.” Musk’s comments were made before the close of his Twitter poll asking users whether they should stay. 3. A Meta VR expert slammed the company’s bureaucracy in a harsh exit memo. John Carmack, Meta’s consulting CTO, wrote about Meta as he was leaving the company: “We constantly self-sabotage, and squander efforts.” The full memo can be found here.

4. Amazon was criticized by the US government for not recording warehouse worker injuries. Federal regulators have issued 14 citations to Amazon for failing to properly record injuries among workers. They are currently investigating Amazon warehouses across five states. We know what we know so far.

5. Salesforce’s Marc Benioff said that new employees are less productive in a leaked Slack message. Some employees were furious when Marc Benioff suggested that remote workers might be responsible for the “much lower productivity” of new employees. The leaked message contained everything we knew.

6. Gen Z feels more “tech shame” than older colleagues. A recent survey found that young adults have a harder time adapting to tech-related issues at work than their older peers. Experts in HR explain why.

7. Meta has shut down a livestreaming platform that it quietly tested with influencers. Super allowed users to host interactive livestreams and engage with their fans. It also earned revenue. This is why the project has been shut down.

8. Shaq claims he was “just a paid spokesperson” and doesn’t believe crypto. Despite appearing in a commercial for FTX in June, the NBA legend stated that he wasn’t bullish about crypto. Is that you?

9. TikTok videos were shared by a Tesla owner about the effects of cold weather on his Tesla. The owner describes “facts about a Tesla” in the videos. He mentions that the doors, frunk and charging port of the Tesla can be frozen closed. You can also see some of his other struggles.
