The Controversy Surrounding Zero Bond Owner’s New Venture in the Hamptons

The Controversy Surrounding Zero Bond Owner’s New Venture in the Hamptons

August 29, 2024 By Peter Leave a Comment

The man responsible for a popular NYC club among celebrities like Taylor Swift and Elon Musk is currently facing backlash from a Hamptons village over his latest business endeavor.

Local Backlash in East Hampton

The owner of Zero Bond, Scott Sartiano, is encountering resistance from the community over his new project in East Hampton. A recent law in the area limits late-night operations, with authorities enforcing strict noise and fire safety regulations.

Elite Social Clubs vs. Hamptons Residents

The residents of the Hamptons are once again expressing displeasure towards the emergence of exclusive social clubs in their luxurious beach town. This time, the spotlight is on the owner of Zero Bond, a renowned Manhattan club frequented by notable personalities such as Taylor Swift, Elon Musk, and Mayor Eric Adams.

Controversy at The Hedges Inn

Scott Sartiano, aged 49, faced opposition when attempting to establish his business at The Hedges Inn, a historical bed and breakfast in East Hampton Village. Originally intended as an extension of Zero Bond, the venture was reconfigured as a restaurant following objections to transforming it into a late-night venue.

Local Legislation and Community Response

Earlier this year, village officials proposed a law prohibiting any dining establishments in the historical village from operating between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The proposal, supported by over 30 endorsements, aimed to preserve the residential area's tranquility and heritage.

A subsequent law was passed in late June, prohibiting late-night restaurant clubs from operating between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. within the historic district. Despite these regulations, Sartiano proceeded with his plans, prompting ongoing resistance from locals.

Challenges and Controversies

Upon the restaurant's opening, issues arose, including a potential fire hazard inspection and noise complaints leading to frequent visits by law enforcement. The community also expressed their disapproval through bumper stickers reading "Zero Chance, Neighbors United Against Nightclubs."

Despite the rocky start, Sartiano's restaurant, operational three nights a week, has managed to attract high-profile individuals like Meghan Markle within its first month of operation.
