According to an engineer from the social media company, Elon Musk is accompanied by at least two bodyguards around Twitter's headquarters. They even go with him to the toilet.
According to the engineer, the BBC spoke on their behalf under anonymity. He said that the bodyguards looked like they were from "Hollywood" movies.
High-flying CEOs and executives are often accompanied by bodyguards or companies that spend significant amounts of money on security details.
According to a BBC report, the engineer stated that he believed Musk's use bodyguards at Twitter's San Fransisco headquarters suggested a lack trust in his employees.
Twitter did not immediately respond to Insider's request of comment. This was outside the US business hours.
Musk's father Errol stated in January that he worried about his son's safety despite the fact that he was protected with "100 security guards". Errol stated that Musk had increased Errol's South Africa security system with cameras and electric fencing, as well as 24-hour armed guards.
According to a disclosure by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Meta, was awarded a $14 million annual personal security allowance for 2023. According to the filing, this includes staff, equipment and residential improvements that will help Zuckerberg and his family stay safe.
Musk laid off thousands in the company's workforce shortly after it acquired Twitter in October as part of a wide-ranging cost-cutting effort.
In May, he tweeted that having Twitter "probably won’t increase my live expectancy." Responding to a tweeter who suggested that Musk should have "more security guards for your team," he said so.
Musk's security team was in the news after a "crazy stalker", Musk claimed, jumped on a car with his son in Los Angeles. Later, the South Pasadena Police Department stated that it believed that the suspect in this case was a member Elon Musk's security staff.
