Elon Musk claims that Twitter users will soon be able switch off new views, just days after the social media platform launched the feature.
Musk responded to a user who complained about the “messy” new feature. He said that Twitter would “tidy-up the esthetics” as well as “add a setting which will turn it off.”
December 24, 2022, Elon Musk (@elonmusk).
Musk first announced that Twitter would begin rolling out the new feature in December 22. The new view counts are similar to the video count. They show the number and type of views a tweet has received, along with the comments and likes.
Twitter users are complaining about the new feature. One user described it as “useless” or “distracting.”
Jack Dorsey (Twitter’s former CEO and cofounder) initially supported the feature. Dorsey called the feature “much more valuable” in early December.
Twitter didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the view count feature that was made after hours.
Musk has been responsible for the introduction of many new features to Twitter since he bought the platform in October. This includes the new paid subscription model. Not all rollouts go smoothly.
Twitter Blue ran into a problem in November, when it was overwhelmed by users pretending to be public figures or brands. The company had to stop offering the subscription service and look for another way to identify official accounts.
