- Mark Zuckerberg is going after Elon Musk.
- Zuckerberg is not only planning surreal cage-fights, but also wants to replace Twitter with a Threads clone.
- Meta Chief is ready to take advantage of the Twitter chaos.
Mark Zuckerberg has decided to have Elon Musk's breakfast.
Meta's jiu jitsu expert is not only preparing to beat Musk in a cagefight — which, in the latest bizarre twist of events, may or may no longer take place at Rome's Colosseum – but his killer instinct also wants to take down Musk's $44-billion plaything: Twitter.
Zuckerberg is set to bring his Twitter killer, Threads, out into the wild this week, with pre-orders for the "text-based-conversation" service going live on Monday. The app's official launch, which will integrate with Instagram, has been scheduled for July 6.

The timing speaks volumes about Zuckerberg’s ambitions. He wants to mock the richest man in the world – both inside and outside the ring.
Zuckerberg’s timing is comically perfect
Zuckerberg, according to reports, has always viewed Twitter as a serious joke-wrapping enterprise.
In his 2013 book, "Hatching Twitter," Nick Bilton stated that Zuckerberg described Twitter as "like driving a clown-car into a mine of gold and falling in."
The clown horn only gets louder. Twitter has experienced frequent outages, and user trust has been rapidly eroded in the absence content moderation. Ad revenue has also dropped.
Musk broke Twitter last week by placing heavy restrictions on the number tweets that users could view each day. He claimed that there was a problem with "data scraping", which is almost certainly due to his new charges for developers accessing Twitter's API.
It's comical that a new competitor appears just as Twitter denies users the doom scrolling.
In the chaos surrounding Musk, a few other Twitter-like services have emerged, which have tried to capitalize on Twitter's frustrations by offering an alternate. Bluesky and Mastodon have been trying to attract users but are still far behind in adoption.
While not being particularly innovative, Zuckerberg is a master at copying his peers. Instagram Stories has long been a better option than Snap Stories. Reels may not be as popular as TikTok but it has a high watch rate. Zuck has a knack for identifying novel, successful concepts on other platforms and integrating these into Meta's apps.
The New York Times reported in December, just over a week after Musk bought out Twitter, that a Meta employee suggested the company go with Twitter's "BREAD & BUTTER", as the billionaire had turned the app on its head. The employee post said that Twitter is in crisis, and Meta needed to get its mojo back.
As early as January, Threads was already in development.
Musk shouldn't worry. The fact that Thread is part of Instagram will give the new service a larger launch platform than its standalone rival.
He has shown that he is nettled by challenging Zuckerberg to a fight and criticizing Threads' privacy policy.
Zuckerberg is already a clear favorite to win a physical fight. Musk will lose in the virtual arena if he doesn't fix Twitter soon.
