Elon Musk lost so many dollars that Guinness World Records named him for the largest personal fortune theft in history’

Elon Musk’s loss of Tesla shares in plummeting prices in 2022 saw him lose more than $100 billion and he no longer holds the title for world’s wealthiest person. Forbes estimates that Musk is still worth $144.4 billion today.

Elon Musk kicked off 2023 with a world record for money lost — breaking it in the process.

Guinness World Records has recognized the Tesla and Twitter CEO for erasing so much of his fortune over the past year. The organization released a press release Friday stating that he has officially broken the record for the “largest personal fortune loss in history”.

Forbes recently reported that Musk’s net worth has plummeted to $183 billion in a little over a year. Bloomberg estimated the figure at $200 billion.

Musk was the previous personal fortune record wiped out. It was lower at $58.6billion and set by Masayoshi Son, Softbank CEO and founder.

According to Bloomberg estimates, Musk’s net worth reached $340 billion in November 2021. However, Tesla shares, which are responsible for the majority of Musk’s wealth fell 65% last year. After Musk purchased Twitter in October, their dramatic fall picked up.

Musk has lost the title of world’s richest man to Bernard Arnault (head of the French company which owns Louis Vuitton), as a result.

According to Forbes, Musk’s current value is $144.4 billion.
