Tennessee lawmaker, who Monday sent a Christmas message with a photo of his gun-toting relatives and offered his "thoughts & prayers" to the families of school victims in his district.
Rep. Andy Ogles from Nashville posted a Twitter statement in response to the shooting at The Covenant School. This private Christian school serves preschoolers through sixth graders. Police killed the shooter, a 28 year-old woman.
He wrote, "My family is devastated by the tragedy at The Covenant School Nashville this morning." "We send our condolences to the families of the victims."
Ogles' statement was retweeted by a number of Twitter users who reposted the Christmas photo of Ogles' family that he posted on Facebook in 2021.
Tweets for Democracy: "This is an offensive response given your Christmas family picture,"
Another user wrote, "Start by Apologizing For This."
Ogles' 2021 message to Ogles with the family photo from the Christmas tree read: "The very atmosphere firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains interference – they should be a place with all that's right," an apocryphal quote by George Washington.
Ogles spokesperson did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
In February, an Insider investigation revealed that Ogles was a far-right freshman representative. This included his law enforcement history and his involvement in fighting international sex traficking.
