Tesla Cybertruck to Function as a Boat
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has announced plans to introduce a 'mod package' for the Cybertruck that will enable it to operate as a boat. The package will make it possible for the truck to traverse at least 100m of water. Musk revealed this information in a post on the X platform, stating that the main upgrade required would be to the cabin door seals.
Cybertruck's Boat Capabilities Discussed on 'Jay Leno's Garage'
Elon Musk's revelation came after a video excerpt from an episode of 'Jay Leno's Garage' was posted by Sawyer Merritt, a user on the X platform. In the video, Lars Moravy, Tesla's vice president of vehicle engineering, mentioned that the Cybertruck could be modified to function as a boat. Moravy even suggested that users could attach an outboard motor to the truck, powered by the truck's outlet, and control it from the screen.
The Challenges of Bringing the Cybertruck to Market
Musk first announced the Cybertruck in 2019, and deliveries began in late November. The truck's unique angular design has sparked mixed reactions, with some loving it and others criticizing it. Musk himself acknowledged the challenges of bringing such a special product to market during Tesla's recent earnings call in October. He referred to the Cybertruck as a "special product" that is difficult to produce in high volume and achieve success.
Representatives for Elon Musk did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider outside of regular business hours.
