Bloomberg Law reported that Regina Lima, Twitter’s deputy general counsel, has left the company.
Bloomberg Law reported that Twitter lost its last deputy general attorney.
Regina Lima was previously Twitter’s international legal head before being promoted to deputy general counsel in the latter part of 2021. Four sources familiar with Twitter operations informed the publication that she has left the company. The publication said that she was previously based in Miami.
Bloomberg Law did no report on Lima’s departure date or circumstances. Lima did not respond immediately to Insider’s request for comment. This was outside of regular working hours.
Bloomberg Law reports that the company had approximately 200 legal staff before Elon Musk took over Twitter in October. Since then, this number has been greatly reduced by a series firings, layoffs and resignations that have affected all departments of the company, from engineering to marketing to human resources.
To fill the gap, Musk has brought in employees from other companies. According to The New York Times more than half of SpaceX’s lawyers have access to Twitter’s internal systems. This includes vice president of legal Chris Cardaci and senior vice president for global business and government affairs Tim Hughes.
Musk had initially brought Alex Spiro, his personal lawyer, into the “war room.” However, people who were familiar with the decision told The Times Spiro never worked for Twitter.
As soon as Musk bought Twitter, Twitter’s legal department was shaken. The tech mogul fired Vijaya Gadde, chief legal officer, and Sean Edgett general counsel. Also, CEO Parag Agrawal was fired and CFO Ned Segal was fired.
James Baker, an ex-FBI general counsel, became the company’s top lawyer after Edgett and Gadde were fired. Musk stated that Baker was “expelled” from Twitter on December 6, for allegedly interfering with the publication of “Twitter Files,” an archive of documents and articles that Musk claims will expose flaws in Twitter’s content-moderation system under previous leadership.
Bloomberg Law reported that other employees have also left, including former deputy general counsel Kevin Cope and chief privacy officer Damien Kieran. Chief compliance officer Marianne Fogarty and Karen Colangelo (head of global litigation regulatory, competition, and competition). Bloomberg Law did not specify the reasons for their departure. Insider reached out to Cope, Fogarty and Cope for comment but they didn’t respond immediately.
In November, Twitter’s ex-human rights counsel stated that Musk had fired the entire human rights team.
