Another Twitter spat between Elon Musk and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is underway
Musk took down the accounts of at most half a dozen journalists on Thursday night and tweeted an explanation. Musk claimed that the suspended journalists had sex with him, in violation of Twitter’s updated privacy policy.
Musk’s explanation was tweeted by Ocasio-Cortez.
“You are a public figure. A controversial and powerful figure. Ocasio Cortez wrote that while I feel unsafe, descending into abuse and erratically banning journalists only increase the intensity around me.”
“Take a step back and put aside the proto-fascism. She suggested that you might put down your phone.
She said that she understood Musk’s point of view and that she has also been “subjected to real + dangerous plots”.
She tweeted, “I didn’t have security and had experienced many frightening incidents.” “In fact many right-wing outlets that you now elevate published photos my car and home. At a certain point you gotta disconnect.”
Musk replied 20 minutes later via Twitter: “You first lol!”
Musk claimed that the journalists suspended had posted Musk’s real-time location online. He called them “basically assassination coordonnées”. Insider could not independently verify that the journalists had posted the coordinates to their accounts.
CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan, Drew Harwell of The Washington Post, Ryan Mac of The New York Times, as well independent journalists Aaron Rupar and Keith Olbermann were among those whose accounts were suspended.
Musk and Ocasio Cortez have had many heated exchanges on Twitter. Ocasio Cortez called Musk an “ego-problem billionaire” in April. He bought Twitter only because Tucker Carlson and Peter Thiel invited him to dinner. This made Musk feel special. Musk responded by tweeting: “Stop shaming me, I’m really timid.”
Ocasio-Cortez criticized Musk in November for “trying” to sell people the idea of “free speech” being a $8/mo subscription. This refers to Musk’s plan to charge Twitter subscribers a premium to verify their identity.
Musk responded to the tweet of the congresswoman, saying that “Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Now pay $8.”
Ocasio-Cortez also reacted in November to Musk’s public poll about whether the Twitter account of former President Donald Trump should be restored.
“Idk man. Last time he was there this platform was used incite an insurrection. Multiple people died, the Vice President and President of the United States were nearly assassinated, hundreds were injured, but I guess that’s too much for you to answer the question. In a tweet response to Musk, Ocasio Cortez stated that Twitter poll it was.
Musk and OcasioCortez did not immediately respond when Insider asked them for comment.
