Tim Gionet (aka “Baked Alaska”) “Baked Alaska
Twitter has restored the account of an internet trolling user who pleaded guilty in a Capitol riot case. The account of “Baked Alaska” was suspended in 2017 due to violating Twitter’s hateful behavior policy. Twitter has now reinstated the account.
Twitter has suspended the account of Baked Alaska. This far-right troll, also known as Tim Gionet on Twitter, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in July to parading, demonstrating, or pickingeting inside a Capitol Building on January 6.
Gionet, who streamed his participation at the Capitol riot live on Twitter, was banned permanently by Twitter in 2017 after violating the platform’s hateful conduct policy.
He used social media to make antisemitic comments and post white nationalist content.
On Friday night, the internet personality who was part of the deadly Unite the Right white nationist rally in 2017 appears to have his account restored.
Insider reached out to Elon Musk, the new owner of social media platform Twitter, for comments. Twitter does not have a communications department.
Musk’s decision, according to Platformer to reinstate banned accounts, led to the suspension of Baked Alaska’s account.
Musk conducted a poll of Twitter users shortly after reinstalling former President Donald Trump’s account. He asked them whether they should offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, “provided that they haven’t broken the law or engaged with egregious spam.”
Insider reported that more than 3 million people voted and 72.4% said he should allow the accounts to return.
Musk replied, “The people have spoken.” “Amnesty starts next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.”
Gionet could spend up to six months prison time for pleading guilty in the Capitol riot case. He has yet to be sentenced.
Gionet was also charged with attempted criminal damage and misdemeanor criminal damages for allegedly destroying a Hanukkah display at the Arizona State Capitol. This incident is per Daily Beast.
Baked Alaska is one of the many controversial accounts that Musk has reinstated since he took over Twitter.
The internet troll celebrated his reinstatement on Telegram, posting an image purporting it to be an email from Twitter. He informed him that his Twitter was now back and that it had been accidentally marked as spam.
He wrote, “Love you guys,” in a Telegram message. “We’re back.”
He also stated that he was not able to tweet yet because he is currently on vacation. His two-factor authentication link is to a phone that he doesn’t have.
Insider reached out to Gionet, but was not immediately able to get a reply.
