- Twitter is now rebranding as the "X" application that Elon Musk, its owner, has been talking about for years.
- The iconic blue bird has been replaced with a black letter X logo as part of the rebrand.
- Musk says that a tweet is now referred to by the "x".
Twitter's iconic "blue bird" logo has been replaced by the "X" application. "Tweets", it seems, are also gone.
Elon Musk, Twitter's owner, said that posts should be renamed "x's," in line with the move to "X."
What are tweets now called, now that Twitter is rebranded as X? Sawyer Merritt asked Monday, after he had apparently suggested the new X Logo.
Musk responded, "x's."
Musk has been hinting at his plans to create an "everything" app called X, for months. The rebranding is another step towards that goal.
Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino explained their vision for an expanded app through a series tweets – or rather "x's", as they are called – on Sunday.
"X is the future of unlimited interaction – centered on audio, video and messaging. It creates a global market for ideas, products, services and opportunities. Powered by AI X will connect all of us in ways that we can't even imagine," wrote she.
Twitter introduced its new logo in a very quiet way, projecting its new X symbol onto its San Francisco headquarters during the night.
The blue bird that was its signature has been replaced with a new logo, which looks suspiciously similar to a generic Unicode symbol. Musk said the image will "certainly be refined" in the future.
There's more: the blue button for making a tweet still says "Tweet," while the search bar reads "Search Twitter" and the URL of the website remains Twitter.com.
It may take a while before "X" or "x's", become commonplace.
