A Tesla driver died Wednesday after an altercation occurred at a charging facility.
Jenny Fulton, spokesperson for Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, said that the 33-year old man, who has not been named, was fatally wounded at a Tesla Supercharger in Edgewater (a suburb of Denver) after an argument. She said that the victim, who suffered a single shot wound, was taken to hospital and was pronounced deceased.
Fulton reported that the man who shot the Tesla driver fled the scene and called the police to tell them what had happened. Later, he was taken into custody.
Edgewater Police Department refused to comment on an investigation that is still ongoing.
Tesla has approximately 18,000 Superchargers across the US, where drivers can charge up to 200 miles within 15 minutes.
In early 2018, it was announced by Elon Musk that his electric vehicle company would make 7,500 fast-charging station available to all EVs by 2024, regardless of their make. This is part of the US Government's goal to make 500,000 chargers available to all drivers of EVs by 2030. Tesla Superchargers used to be available only to Tesla owners.
Tesla owners are concerned that the change will result in longer queues at fast-charging outlets.
