According to a senior employee of Twitter, he spent nine days trying figure out if he had been laid off by the company.
Haraldur Thorleifsson (an ex-Twitter director who is based in Iceland) had a heated exchange with Elon Musk Monday after he asked the Twitter owner about his employment status.
Thorleifsson tweeted to Musk, "You have every right not to lay me off." "That's perfectly fair and acceptable. But people usually are informed when this happens. Perhaps with a letter. Despite multiple emails to you and others, this didn't happen for nine days."
Thorleifsson stated that he had received confirmation from Twitter that he was no longer employed by the company three minutes after he posted the tweet. He said, "Again that's completely within your rights." "No complaints. "But can you ensure I get paid for what I owe?"
Thorleifsson also tweeted that Twitter's HR head had emailed him to inform him he was being laid off.
Twitter and Thorleifsson did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
Thorleifsson tweeted Musk earlier Monday, claiming that he had lost access to his laptop nine days back but couldn't confirm whether he was laid off. Thorleifsson claimed that Twitter's head for human resources failed to confirm whether he was still working there on two occasions. He also said that he had emailed Musk but did not receive a response.
Musk replied to Thorleifsson’s tweet later and asked: "What work are you doing?" This led to a heated back-and forth between Musk and Thorleifsson.
Thorleifsson was the founder of Ueno, which Twitter purchased in 2021. Thorleifsson's LinkedIn profile shows that he was a director at Twitter, Reykjavik (Island) after the acquisition.
Platformer reported that Thorleifsson, one of four top managers, had been placed on a "do-not fire" list due to the high cost of paying them off. The report stated that all four were fired.
According to Platformer, the four were among around 200 Twitter employees who were laid off during the most recent round of layoffs. Since October's $44 billion purchase of Twitter, Musk has made thousands of Twitter employees redundant.
Other former Twitter employees were also laid off, claiming that they were prevented from accessing their email and work laptops during the layoffs.
