Musk briefly joined a Twitter account to defend himself against journalists who had been suspended.
After Twitter suspended multiple journalists, Elon Musk briefly joined the Twitter Space hosted Katie Notopoulos by Buzzfeed reporter to defend himself, before abruptly stepping down.
Twitter suspended accounts of six journalists who reported on the billionaire’s activities on Thursday. Among those affected were journalists from CNN, The Washington Post and The New York Times.
Musk suggested that the suspensions were due to the removal from @ElonJet of an account that tracks Musk’s private jet. Musk claimed that Twitter accounts had shared his exact real-time location, an action for which Twitter had already banned users.
Twitter has also updated its privacy policy to ban users from posting the “live location” of a person.
Some journalists discovered that they could still access Twitter spaces despite account suspensions. According to online screenshots, Jack Sweeney was also in the Twitter Space.
Musk stated that everyone would be treated the same, according to an online recording. Musk told reporters that their accounts weren’t special because they were journalists.
“You get suspended if you dox.” He said, “End of story.”
He quickly left the space after journalists attempted to ask him more about the suspension. Notopoulos stated that the Space was cut abruptly and that no recording was made.
Insider reached out to Twitter representatives for comment but they did not respond immediately.
